$5,000 Sign-on Bonus
Position Summary
The Special Projects / Building Maintenance position is responsible for completing a variety of construction, building maintenance, repair, improvement, and special projects throughout the company’s facilities and grounds.
This position requires a versatile, hands-on individual who can work independently, identify problems, determine practical solutions, and complete projects safely and efficiently. The employee will work with Maintenance, Production, Operations, and other departments to support facility needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Complete construction, remodeling, repair, maintenance, and improvement projects throughout company facilities and grounds.
- Perform general building maintenance and repairs involving walls, doors, ceilings, floors, fixtures, and other building components.
- Perform carpentry, framing, drywall, painting, finish work, and other general construction activities.
- Assist with concrete, flooring, roofing, siding, plumbing, electrical-related work, welding/fabrication, and other facility projects within the employee’s training and authorization.
- Construct, install, modify, and repair structures, work areas, offices, storage areas, shelving, cabinets, workstations, guards, racks, doors, and other facility improvements.
- Assist with the installation, relocation, and modification of machinery, equipment, workstations, and production areas.
- Measure, lay out, cut, assemble, and install materials according to project requirements and basic drawings or specifications.
- Identify building and facility maintenance issues and recommend appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
- Determine materials, tools, equipment, and other resources needed to complete assigned projects.
- Coordinate with other departments and outside contractors as needed to schedule and complete projects.
- Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and clean and organized work areas.
- Assist with preventative maintenance, snow removal, grounds maintenance, seasonal preparation, and other facility-related activities as needed.
- Identify and report potential safety hazards, building deficiencies, and maintenance concerns.
- Perform other special projects, maintenance, construction, and general duties as assigned.
Safety Responsibilities
- Perform work only when properly trained, qualified, and authorized.
- Follow company safety policies, applicable OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and established maintenance procedures.
- Properly use required PPE, fall protection, tools, ladders, lifts, and other equipment.
- Secure or barricade work areas when construction or maintenance activities may create hazards for others.
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or potential hazards and stop work when an unsafe condition exists.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction, building maintenance, facility maintenance, or a related hands-on trade preferred.
- Ability to safely use common hand tools, power tools, and applicable equipment.
- Ability to perform general building repairs and maintenance and troubleshoot problems to determine practical solutions.
- Ability to read and understand basic measurements, drawings, instructions, and project specifications.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and prioritize work based on company needs.
- Good communication and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple departments.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship and safety.
- Experience in carpentry, construction, welding/fabrication, plumbing, electrical work, equipment operation, or project coordination is preferred.
- Willing and able to travel and work at other company facilities in Minnesota, Iowa, and Tennessee for up to one week at a time, approximately two to three times per year.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment, using assistance when needed.
- Ability to safely work indoors and outdoors, including from ladders or elevated areas, while using required PPE.
Work Environment
This position works throughout manufacturing facilities, warehouses, offices, maintenance areas, and outdoor grounds. The employee may be exposed to moving equipment, machinery, vehicle traffic, construction activities, dust, noise, fumes, chemicals, varying temperatures, elevated work areas, and other industrial conditions. Proper PPE and safety procedures are required.
